A pin can be more than something people scroll past.

With the right keywords, visuals, boards, and strategy, Pinterest can become a traffic machine that sends people straight to your website, store, or offer.

What actually gets clicks? What turns pins into sales? What Pinterest tactics are still working?

Share your experiments, strategies, and wins here—and see what other marketers are doing differently.

Wait, are we talking organic or paid visual ads? Because organically, Pinterest algorithm updates completely destroyed mass-repinning strategies. If you aren't uploading fresh vertical assets daily, you’re essentially invisible now.

People keep treating Pinterest like a digital mood board, but it’s literally a visual search engine. The shelf life of a single pin beats any tweet or video reel by months.

Spot on, Jace. A post on Meta dies in 24 hours; a well-optimized pin can drive intent-focused referral traffic to a landing page for two years. What’s your current pinning frequency?

@Isla Purely organic SEO first. I’m posting 3 to 5 fresh pins a day using dynamic templates. The trick isn't new content—it's 5 different visual variations pointing to the exact same blog URL or product page.

@Jace Smart workflow. Are you matching the text overlay on the image directly to high-volume unbranded search queries, or relying strictly on the pin description metadata?

@Lisa You have to do both. Pinterest’s visual AI literally reads the text baked into the JPEG/PNG image. If your overlay text says "Budget Living Room Ideas" but your title says "Cheap Decor," the algorithm gets confused on topic relevance.

@Isla Hit the nail on the head. Visual OCR (optical character recognition) is huge now. I put the exact primary keyword in the overlay, the title, and the first 50 characters of the description.

@Jace How are you handling the conversion side once they actually click through to your site? Outbound clicks are great, but bounce rates from Pinterest traffic are historically higher than Google Search.

That's because people on Pinterest are in "inspiration mode," not "credit card out" mode. If you send a Pinterest user straight to a hard-sell checkout page, they bounce immediately.

@Isla Exactly. I stopped sending pin traffic to product pages. Now I send them to educational listicles or interactive tools with embedded shoppable links. Conversion rate tripled instantly.

@Jace Bridge pages! That makes total sense. Give them the visual fix or answer they searched for first, then capture the email via a quick lead magnet. What about Rich Pins? Are you using Article or Product Rich Pins?

If you have an e-commerce shop and aren't using Product Rich Pins with synced catalog pricing, you're lighting money on fire. Real-time stock status and price tags right on the feed skyrocket click-throughs.

@Isla Product Rich Pins for our e-com SKUs, Article Rich Pins for the content hub. It pulls the metadata automatically so the post title updates seamlessly if we tweak it on the website.

@Jace How do you structure your board strategy? Do you group by super specific long-tail topics, or keep board titles broad to capture maximum search volume?

Niche boards all the way. Naming a board "Home Decor" is useless—it’s too competitive. "Mid-Century Modern Apartment Decor on a Budget" will actually rank in search queries.

@Isla 100%. I treat Pinterest board titles like H1 headers on a website. Broad main boards, but 70% of our pins live in highly specific long-tail topic boards.

@Jace Makes sense. What aspect ratio are you testing right now? Standard 2:3 vertical (1000x1500), or are you pushing longer formats?

Careful with ultra-long pins! Pinterest heavily crops anything longer than a 1:2.1 aspect ratio in the feed now. Stick strictly to 2:3 if you don't want your text overlay truncated mid-sentence.

@Isla Learned that the hard way last year. Cut off our main call-to-action on 50+ pins. 1000x1500 is the sweet spot. Bold typography, high contrast, zero fancy cursive fonts that AI OCR can't read.
