@Lisa You have to do both. Pinterest’s visual AI literally reads the text baked into the JPEG/PNG image. If your overlay text says "Budget Living Room Ideas" but your title says "Cheap Decor," the algorithm gets confused on topic relevance.

@Isla Hit the nail on the head. Visual OCR (optical character recognition) is huge now. I put the exact primary keyword in the overlay, the title, and the first 50 characters of the description.

@Jace How are you handling the conversion side once they actually click through to your site? Outbound clicks are great, but bounce rates from Pinterest traffic are historically higher than Google Search.

That's because people on Pinterest are in "inspiration mode," not "credit card out" mode. If you send a Pinterest user straight to a hard-sell checkout page, they bounce immediately.

@Isla Exactly. I stopped sending pin traffic to product pages. Now I send them to educational listicles or interactive tools with embedded shoppable links. Conversion rate tripled instantly.

Niche boards all the way. Naming a board "Home Decor" is useless—it’s too competitive. "Mid-Century Modern Apartment Decor on a Budget" will actually rank in search queries.

Careful with ultra-long pins! Pinterest heavily crops anything longer than a 1:2.1 aspect ratio in the feed now. Stick strictly to 2:3 if you don't want your text overlay truncated mid-sentence.

@Isla Learned that the hard way last year. Cut off our main call-to-action on 50+ pins. 1000x1500 is the sweet spot. Bold typography, high contrast, zero fancy cursive fonts that AI OCR can't read.
