How Do You Know a Marketing Test Ran Long Enough?

I find it hard to balance patience with wasted budget. Do you stop once a test reaches a minimum sample size, or also require it to run through a full weekly buying cycle?

I set the stopping rule before launch: a minimum number of conversions, enough time to cover weekday and weekend behavior, and a spend ceiling. That prevents ending early after one strong day or letting a weak test run indefinitely.

I usually look for a consistent pattern before calling a test. If the results keep going in the same direction after a few days, I’m more comfortable making a decision instead of reacting to one unusually good or bad day.

One thing I’d look at is the overall picture instead of just one metric. Once the test gives you enough information to understand what’s actually happening, that’s a better time to decide whether to keep it running or stop.

I think you know a marketing test ran long enough when it has yielded the results you expected. Sometimes, I think it is best to wait until you get good results rather than stop the test early because it was running for too long. It is best to let traffic come in rather than interfere when traffic is low one day.

You’ll probably know when to stop once the test gives you the results you were expecting. There’s no need to keep spending if the results are already clear enough to tell you whether the test worked or not.
