Are "Buy Now, Pay Later" options (like Klarna) worth adding?

I sell physical products online and I'm considering adding installment payment options at checkout. For those who offer things like Afterpay or Klarna, did it actually increase your average order size, or did it just add extra fees?

I believe that Buy Now, Pay Later options make the most sense in the context of high-cost products which require a thoughtful purchase decision. In my opinion, the value of such options is justified primarily by the opportunity to split the payment into smaller installments, thus eliminating the need to cover the full price of the product at once. The only downside is the risk of additional fees, so it’s worth keeping track of the size of these fees and weighing them against the potential benefits

It could also be useful for customers who are interested in a product but hesitate because of the upfront price. Having the option to split the payment might make them more comfortable checking out, especially for bigger purchases. The main thing would be seeing if the extra sales are enough to make the fees worthwhile.

It also depends on whether your customers would actually use it. Some people might like having the option to split the payment, while others may just stick to their usual payment method. It’s worth seeing how your customers respond to it first.

It could also make checkout feel a little easier for bigger purchases since customers don’t have to pay the full amount right away. I’d just make sure the extra cost doesn’t end up taking too much from the profit.

Having that option can be useful for bigger purchases, especially for customers who don’t want to pay everything upfront. I’d still look at how often people actually use it before keeping it as a permanent option.
