What’s your simplest trick for finding easy keywords?

Every time I plug a basic topic into a free keyword tool, the competition score looks insanely high. How do you guys uncover those lower-competition, specific search phrases that actual buyers use?

One thing that helps is looking at the specific questions people ask instead of only searching broad keywords. Those longer phrases can be easier to work with, and they usually give you a better idea of what someone is actually looking for.

One trick that I know works well is to look at forums and see what questions are being asked and what people are talking about. If there are certain questions that people are repeatedly asking and Google is not giving great answers for, there is a good opportunity to make some content that targets those questions. Some of my best keywords came from people actually asking questions.
