What Business Owner Habits Make You Lose Respect for Them?

Running a business isn't always easy, but some habits can make working with certain owners unnecessarily difficult. Things like delaying payments, treating employees poorly, or expecting everyone to adjust to their lack of planning can say a lot about how they run things. What business owner behavior do you find hardest to tolerate?

I find it annoying when business owners just walk around their store watching the staff instead of helping out, especially when there aren't many customers. Like, you're the owner, too. Why not help entertain customers or encourage them to check out the products? Sometimes, that kind of environment feels awkward, even for the customers, because everyone seems too serious. I respect owners who are willing to get involved instead of acting like their only job is to supervise everyone else.

I honestly lose respect for business owners who reprimand their employees in front of customers. If there's a problem with how a worker is doing their job, why not pull them aside and talk about it privately instead of embarrassing them in front of everyone? Customers don't need to witness that kind of situation, and the employee deserves some respect, too. I don't understand why some owners think it's okay to handle things that way when they can address the issue without making someone feel humiliated.

One red flag for me is when business owners hire someone just because they're a friend or acquaintance, even when they're clearly not the right fit for the job. I get that they might want to fill the position quickly, but it can cause more problems later if the person can't handle the responsibilities. It makes me question whether they're really thinking about what's best for the business or just choosing what's convenient for them.
