When you're just starting out in marketing, it's easy to assume that getting lots of views means you're doing a good job, or that what worked once will always work. But that's not necessarily the case. What do you think beginners tend to misunderstand the most about marketing, and what would you tell someone who's just getting started?

I think one of the biggest mistakes is assuming that everything will go according to plan. Marketing comes with a lot of uncertainties, and things don't always turn out the way you expect them to. Beginners can get so excited about their ideas that they forget to prepare for possible setbacks. It's good to have a plan, of course, but you also need to be flexible enough to adjust when things don't work out. Sometimes, learning how to handle unexpected situations is just as important as having a good strategy in the first place.

That's why I feel like being able to think on your feet is such an important skill in marketing. You can have the best ideas on paper, but knowing how to respond when something unexpected happens is a different story. I also think beginners shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes because those experiences can teach them what actually works in the real world. You won't learn everything just by planning; sometimes, you have to try things yourself to understand them better.

I guess one of the biggest mistakes is being too confident that a business will take off just because you came up with a really good idea. A great idea is a good starting point, but it doesn't guarantee that people will actually buy what you're offering. You still need to understand your audience, know how to market your product, and be prepared for things not to go as planned. Having confidence is good, but being too sure of your idea can make you overlook what the business actually needs to succeed.

One dangerous assumption is thinking that every sale automatically means the business is earning more money. Beginners might get excited about making more sales without considering how much they're spending to get those customers. You could be selling a lot but barely making any profit because your expenses are too high. That's why it's important to look beyond the number of sales and understand how much the business is actually earning.
